By 200,000 years ago our ancestors were making advanced stone tools called Acheulean handaxes. These were fashioned by chipping away at a piece of stone to create a symmetrical tool with a sharp edge or point. The making of Acheulean handaxes is thought to indicate an important development in human cognition because it shows that early humans could conceptualize an object and plan how to create it. This technological advance paved the way for further innovations such as spears, bows and arrows, and sewing needles.
During the Middle Ages, many technological advances took place. The technology of that time period revolved around the needs of the people of that era. There were advances in agriculture, medicine, and manufacturing.
